Game overview

CloneUp: Stack Yourself is a pixel-art platformer where the only building material is you. Press the clone button and a copy of your character freezes in place, and copies can be stacked to make a step, a bridge over spikes, or a tower up to a ledge you cannot jump to. Every room becomes a small logic problem about how many clones you can spare and exactly where each one has to stand, because a clone dropped in the wrong tile is a step you no longer have.

This title is best suited to players who like platformers where thinking beats reflexes.

How to play CloneUp: Stack Yourself

  1. Move to the spot where a step would help and leave a clone there
  2. Stack a second clone on the first to build height
  3. Jump across your own bodies to clear spikes and gaps
  4. Reach the exit door before you run out of clones

Tips for CloneUp: Stack Yourself

  • Walk the room first and count the jumps you cannot make unaided
  • Place a clone at the lip of a gap, not in the middle of it
  • If a room feels one clone short, look for a jump you can make without help

What worked well and what did not

Pros

  • One idea, developed properly across every room
  • Deaths cost seconds, so experimenting is cheap

Cons

  • Precision jumps punish a mis-timed press
  • Keyboard control means it is a desktop game first
